11/20/25
Cliffside Park, NJ

Join us for our next Koinonia Prayer Night on Thursday, November 20 @ 7PM. To ensure enough food is prepared, please be sure to RSVP.

Koinonia in Greek means "fellowship." In the Bible, however, fellowship means much more than what modern Christians have made it. It involves intimacy in relationship and a deep spiritual camaraderie that involves prayer, mutual encouragement & edification, and the breaking of bread. This prayer night is designed to reflect the spirit of that word and to meet people where they are, similar to what we see in the Book of Acts.

"The Humanity of Jesus"

Speaker

Scripture

Mark 14:32-34

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”

Corporate Prayer

Father,

We come before You this morning in awe that the One who is infinite, transcendent, and the very ground of all being would draw near to people like us. You are beyond our comprehension—Spirit, eternal, holy—and yet in Your love You chose to make Yourself known. And so we thank You for Jesus, the exact representation of Your nature, God made flesh, approachable, relatable, touchable.

Jesus, we confess that intimacy with You is something we often talk about but rarely know how to pursue. We admit that many of the images we carry of You are shaped more by culture than by Scripture—images of distance, severity, or a kind of untouchable divinity. But today we thank You for reminding us that You are fully God and fully human. That You walked this earth with a real body, real emotions, real limitations, and even a real sense of humor. Thank You that You chose not to remain far off, but to live among us in all the fullness of humanity.

Lord, help us take Your humanity seriously. Help us to remember that You were tempted in every way we are, that You know what it feels like to be weary, misunderstood, overwhelmed, joyful, frustrated, afraid, and deeply lonely. Help us remember Gethsemane—how on the night of Your greatest anguish, You didn’t want distance but presence. You wanted Your friends near, You longed for companionship, You felt the sting of disappointment when they failed You. Thank You that in showing us Your vulnerability, You showed us that You understand ours.

And because You understand, we can come.

Teach us, Lord, to bring our full selves to You—our emotions, our confusion, our raw honesty—just like Mary and Martha did. Free us from the instinct to sanitize our prayers or hide our inner world. Help us process every emotion with You, trusting that Your humanity means You truly empathize, and Your divinity means You can truly help.

Holy Spirit, make Jesus real to us. Let His humanity comfort us and His divinity strengthen us. Let the truth that He is both fully God and fully man draw us into a deeper, richer devotion—one that leads to real intimacy, real transformation, and real overflow into our lives and communities.

And as our church seeks to be Simply Devoted, we pray that our devotion would be rooted not just in knowing who You are, but in knowing what You are like. Let us encounter the Jesus who laughed, who wept, who felt the weight of fear, who longed for friendship, and who loved us all the way to the cross. Through that love, make us more like You.

We pray all this in Your holy name.

Amen.
