Sermon
Darkness Then Light - "It's Personal"
Speaker
Kee Won Huh
Scripture
Isaiah 9:2
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness,
a light has dawned.
Corporate Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
We come before You today as people who know what darkness feels like. Some of us carry it quietly, some of us feel it pressing on our homes and relationships, and some of us have tasted that cold, sinister presence that seeks only our undoing. We confess, God, that there are moments when the shadows feel overwhelming—when fear blinds us, when despair suffocates us, when evil feels more real than hope. And yet, in those very moments, You teach us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against powers and spiritual forces darker than we can imagine.
Father, open our eyes to see the world as Jesus sees it—not the sentimental version we often settle for, but the spiritual reality Scripture reveals. Remind us that Christmas was never meant to be soft or trivial. It was Your Great Invasion into enemy territory, Your decisive move against a hateful and destructive darkness. Jesus, You came as Light that pierces the deepest night, Light strong enough to shatter the worst evil the universe has ever known.
Thank You, Lord, that You did not leave us alone in this war. Thank You that through Your birth, Your life, Your death, and Your resurrection, You delivered us from the powers that longed for our destruction. And thank You that You now call us—not to complacency, not to sentimentality—but to join You in the fight: through prayer, through discipleship, through community, through compassion, through the shaping of hearts that push back darkness in Your name.
Holy Spirit, strengthen us. Make us alert. Make us courageous. Give us a holy seriousness about the realities we face, and a holy joy about the victory that is already Yours. Form us into a church that is awake, equipped, and willing—ready to wage war against despair with hope, against hatred with love, against falsehood with truth, and against darkness with the radiant presence of Christ.
And as we enter this Christmas season, let the angels’ joy become our joy—not shallow cheer, but the deep, unstoppable celebration that comes from knowing that Light has entered the world, that the dragon has been cast down, and that the King who rules all nations has come for us.
We worship You, Jesus.
We trust You.
And we follow You into the light.
Amen.
