Purpose
When anyone enters into relationship with God by grace from, and faith in, the person and work of Jesus Christ they are entering into two covenants. The first is to journey with God for the rest of their lives and love Him fully. The second is to journey with His other children in the community of the local church. Your membership in a church is an official recognition of this, and the purpose of the NMPC Membership Covenant are:
To join the Spirit in forming authentic community that reflects the relationship between the Father, Son & Spirit
To clarify the ongoing blessings & responsibilities of each member
To encourage consistency, accountability and loving unity within the church family.
To accomplish God's call for the NMPC church family.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, the church leadership covenants the following:
We commit ourselves to lovingly caring for you and seeking your growth in Christ.
We covenant to provide teaching and counsel from the Scriptures.
We commit that this teaching will span the whole counsel of God's Word.
We commit to helping you in times of need.
We covenant that your elders and deacons will meet the criteria assigned to them in the Scriptures.
We covenant to pray for you regularly, particularly when you are sick.
We covenant to be on guard against false teachers.
We covenant to exercise church discipline when necessary.
We covenant to help you become equipped to serve Christ.
We covenant to seek God's will for our church community to the best of our ability as we study the Scriptures and follow the Spirit.
We covenant to set and example and join you in fulfilling the duties of church members.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, I, the undersigned, publicly proclaim to adhere to the following as a member of NMPC:
Attending, participating, faithfully, in the life, worship and ministry of New Mercy Palisades Church, and supporting the vision God has given to my church.
Proclaiming, through my life and words, the good news of Jesus Christ.
Maintaining the unity of my church by loving each other in words and in actions and following the leadership of my church.
Serve my church through praying for its growth (members and maturity), encouraging people to come to know Christ as Savior and sincerely welcoming those who visit our church, giving time, talents and financial support for the advancement of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Maturing to minister by discovering my ministerial gifts and finding a concrete way to minister, personal spiritual disciplines (scripture reading, prayer, worship, joy, body care, and so on) our church, developing a servant's heart for our church, and serving all peoples.
In light of the above, I recognize that as a member of NMPC I have the privilege to:
Receive spiritual guidance from the leaders.
Receive pastoral counseling.
Receive prayer and healing.
Receive an education in the Christian beliefs.
Vote for those who will lead me.
Speak and vote in all congregational meetings.
Be a steward of this church.
Hold office.
By signing this covenant, I:
Devote myself to serving God and neighbor faithfully in and through this church.
Believe the fundamental Christian beliefs of the church.
Understand and agree to all that was stated in this covenant and the membership class.
